Exemptions on registration

Depending on the educational qualifications you possess, you may find that you are eligible for some exemptions from ACCA qualifications. Exemptions are awarded at the time of registering for an ACCA qualification according to the qualifications which you hold - you do not need to make a separate application for them. If ACCA does not have sufficient information to award the exemption from the appropriate papers, we will contact you for additional information. You should not send exemption fees with your registration application; you will be invoiced accordingly when the exemptions have been awarded.

NB: Exemptions are awarded ONLY on the basis of academic qualifications. Candidates who have relevant work experience may be able to count their experience towards the necessary competence requirement for the CAT or ACCA qualification (provided the experience can be verified by the appropriate employer), but it will not qualify them for exemptions from any of the professional or technician examinations.

If you are to be exempted from Technician Level A, for example, you will not be allowed to attempt Technician Level B examinations at the next available session, unless you have claimed the exemption for Technician Level A by the appropriate deadlines shown below:

  • 31 July for December examinations
  • 31 January for June examinations

There are different closing dates for claiming exemptions for Joint Scheme applicants in Singapore.

Work Experience

If you have relevant experience accredited at NVQ 2 or above you will gain exemption from the ACCA Accounting Technician Level A. No other exemptions are available based on experience. However, previous work experience can be counted towards the Technician competence requirement if it is recorded in the Technician Training Record and can be verified by the appropriate supervisor.

Exemptions from the Qualification

If you have no qualifications, you will be expected to complete all three Levels of the Technician examinations. Other qualifications will receive exemptions from some, or all papers. But even with exemptions, you have to satisfy the necessary training requirement to complete the Technician qualification as a whole.

ACCA maintains lists of qualifications categorised according to the

  • country of origin
